Policy on the use of generative AI

The Journal of European Economy’s editorial board policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) permits authors, reviewers, and editors to use generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in compliance with the international norms and principles established by COPE (https://publicationethics.org/cope-focus/artificial-intelligence), the academic integrity requirements set out in the Law of Ukraine “On Education”, and the Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Educational Process and Scientific Activities of West Ukrainian National University (https://www.wunu.edu.ua/past-and-present/academic-integrity/16284-akademchna-dobrochesnst.html).

The use of generative AI and AI-assisted tools should be carried out under human supervision and control.

The use of AI by authors

Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies may be used in the process of article preparation for:

- language and literary refinement of text to improve readability and correct grammatical errors;

- assistance in processing bibliographic references;

- automated translation of text while preserving scientific content.

Authors should acknowledge their use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies during the article preparation process and indicate the name of the AI tool used (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, NovelAI, Jasper AI, Rytr AI, DALL-E, Grammarly, etc.), its developer, version or configuration, the nature of its use, and the volume of the structural portion of the material generated by AI and included in the text of the publication.

Authors should not list AI or AI-assisted tools as authors or co-authors, nor should they cite AI as an author.

Regardless of the use of AI, authors are fully responsible for the content, accuracy, and originality of all materials.

Hidden use of AI is considered a violation of ethical standards.

The use of AI by reviewers

Reviewers may use AI technologies to edit their own texts and to check the format of references or basic background information.

Reviewers are prohibited from:

  • uploading the submitted manuscript, or any part of it, into a generative AI tool, as this may violate the authors’ confidentiality and property rights;
  • using AI for scientific review of the article, analysis, or comparison of manuscripts;
  • using AI to write expert opinions, recommendations, or reviews.

Reviewers are responsible for the content of their reviews.

The use of AI by the editorial team

The submitted manuscript is treated as a confidential document. The editor does not upload the manuscript, or any part of it, to a generative AI tool.

AI is not used in the process of evaluating manuscripts or making decisions about acceptance or rejection. All editorial decisions are made by humans.

The editorial team reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of using AI tools and to reject submitted materials or take post-publication measures with respect to materials that contain falsified or fraudulent content generated using AI.
